Mehran Pourvahab is a researcher, developer, educator, and network engineer with a background in computer engineering and extensive experience in the fields of Medical Informatics, Data Science, Machine Learning, Networking, Cloud Security, Cloud Forensics, Software-defined Networking, and Blockchain Technology. He received his Ph.D. in computer engineering from Azad University, Iran, where his thesis on collecting reliable legal evidence on cloud networks forensics earned him top honors with a thesis evaluation of 20/20. Mehran has completed one postdoctoral position and is currently pursuing another, both at the University of Beira Interior (UBI) in Portugal. His first postdoctoral position was at the C4 – Cloud Computing Competences Centre, where he researched and developed a platform to identify, monitor, warn, and predict relevant events in Cardiology and Neurodegenerative and Behavioral diseases through ML & Data Science. In his ongoing second postdoctoral position at the Assisted Living Computing and Telecommunications Laboratory (ALLab), he is working on researching and developing predictive algorithms and knowledge-based modules in Medical Informatics through AI. He joined the Centre for Human Language Technology and Bioinformatics (HULTIG) of UBI, and he is working as a Data Manager and Project Manager of the Unified Data Model on the Phara-On project — one of the biggest R&D projects in the EU, involving multinational collaboration — to enhance the quality of life for Europe’s ageing population through ICT solutions. He innovated a data model and RDF-based process within the Phara-On project, which connects diverse technologies for healthy and active ageing and provides a standardized approach to ensuring semantic interoperability among diverse systems. Mehran has been collaborating with the NOVALINCS research center since 2023. He had served as a faculty member of the computer department at Azad University, Langarud Branch. He has been a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the IEEE Computer Society since 2012. In addition, he has been an active participant in the Iranian ICT Guild Organization, serving as head of the security and network commission and commission membership of network and security. He holds multiple professional certifications, including MikroTik Certified Routing Engineer, MikroTik Certified Wireless Engineer, and Cyberoam Certified Network & Security Professional. Additionally, he was the chairman of the board of MehranNet Internet service provider, established in 2001; he also established the first computer store in the counties of Rudsar & Langarud, Guilan province, Iran, in 1997. Mehran has extensive publications, including papers in prestigious journals and conferences. He has also presented workshops on topics such as Blockchain and Cyber Warfare and has reviewed many articles for various journals and conferences. In addition to his research contributions, Mehran has a proven track record as an educator. He has taught courses such as algorithm design, databases, computer networks, data communications, and programming languages at universities and technical institutes in Iran. He has also supervised and co-supervised PhD’s and master’s students, and has served on the jury for master’s thesis defense. He is a consultant and trainer in networking and internet security, having earned his Mikrotik trainer certificate in 2011 and serving as an official adviser in networking and the internet. Mehran is well-equipped to make meaningful contributions in both academic and industry settings, bringing a unique perspective and commitment to excellence in his field.
